A South Korean actress who was forced into hiding after a drunk driving accident was found dead in her home on Sunday.
Kim Se-ron, 24, who last starred in the 2023 hit Netflix series “Bloodhounds,” was found dead at her home in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, at 4:50 p.m. local time by a friend who had planned to meet her, Yonhap News Agency and the Korea Herald reported.
“We have not yet found any signs of foul play, but we are investigating the circumstances of the death” according to the police inquiry.
The star, who began acting at the age of 9, rose to fame with roles in the 2010 action movie “The Man from Nowhere” and the 2012 thriller “The Neighbor.”
But Kim took a step back from acting after crashing her car into a roadside electrical transformer box while drunk in May 2022, the South China Morning Post reported.
She was fined $20 million won, or $13,850 US — and the accident led to public humiliation for removing her from the limelight, including leaving her role in the drama series “Trolley,” the outlet said.
According to Yonhap, she attempted to return to acting last year but later withdrew again due to health issues.
Kim began acting at the age of 9 and made her debut in the 2009 South Korean film “A Brand New Life,” which screened at the Cannes Film Festival that year. In its review, Variety praised the young actress for her "concentrated, utterly convincing" performance.
The following year Kim starred in "The Man from Nowhere." According to Box Office Mojo, the action-thriller became South Korea's highest-grossing film of 2010 in the country, surpassing "Inception" and "Iron Man 2"
Kim was also known for films such as "I'm a Dead Man" and "A Girl at My Door," the latter of which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014. In a review of "A Girl at My Door" for RogerEbert.com, Seongyong Cho wrote that Kim, who "previously achieved success with her remarkable debut performance in "A Brand New Life," was "exceptional."
Kim's most recent release was the action series "Bloodhounds."
She has won numerous awards throughout her career and has been honored as "Best New Actress" at several Korean Arts Awards, according to her IMDB page.
